It's still consistent with it being on the authentication side, since it could be that the offline account status page changes something in a database somewhere (like the pet store does, I suppose), but the fact that it can affect things in-game is positive sign. Perhaps Blizzard reads CC ;-)

At the very least, a guild leader could ask a player to pull out their Corehound before promoting them to the gbank-accessing rank, although it's not foolproof.

These days though with the Mobile Authenticator being available for most phones at very low cost I don't see a reason not to have one. I consider myself a safe and savvy internet user, but given the hassle if anything bad does happen I think it's worth the minimal cost.

Ah, interesting, I didn't see that at first glance of the announcement.

I assume that part of that is to win over the crowd who have been resisting authenticator use and were tempted to attach / redeem / detach. Hopefully it's been implemented in such a way to make the guild bank idea a reality.

Interesting to see that the Corehound Pup is given to players with active authenticators, and it disappears when the authenticator is removed from the account.
Seems like the infrastructure to have a "secured account bit" is in place at some level. Maybe we could see that as a guild bank privilege level at some point.

I like the idea of a /gw 'channel', especially in bigger guilds with busier gchats this would be very helpful.

I pretty much want everything you mentioned, but in particular the biggest change I'd love to see is more offline integration. Being able to do more with the in-game calendar, inspecting professions via the armory, and accessing the guild control panel through a much slicker, richer interface would be really nice.
And then once you have the rich interface, it would be great to have a published API to allow third party websites to read and write this information, so for example you could use a custom sign-up system which would interface directly with the in-game calendar app. Then you could read off the characters' "addon note" to pull out their DKP or PR or whatever.

It's nice to dream...

Surprisingly good article, with notable ideas. I'd recommend you post in the official guild management forums a link back to this article, and try to get some publicity.
